Having an android device means being able to unlock the superuser controls hidden inside the linux powered machine. Though this doesnt sound like much, this means being able to load your own Operating systems and Read only Memory or Roms onto your phone
This could mean using one of the numerous 3rd party operating systems, or the newest one released by google that isnt available on your phone. By enablign third party development, the power of the masses is put behind the android community, to gain access to this pluthera of creative prowess a few generic steps are needed
The first step to loading , aka flashing, your roms is gaining super user access to your phone.
This is very similar to administrative power on your computer, and is done by doing something called Rooting your device.
Rooting a device is granting this administrative access so you can start cracking open and messing with your phone.
Once your device is rooted, you can access your recover mode (each device is differant, google your model for details) and begin flashing whatever you like.
The reason this feature is hidden like this is because Flashing your phone can be dangerous for your device, though it doesnt happen often, mistakes can be made while rooting or flashig that can destroy your phone.
Why risk rooting and flashing your android? Because its awesome! Being able to have access to a pluthera of user made software is not only exciting but giving the masses the ability to mess with the workings of the phone produces amazing results, take a look at xda developers for examples.
A few tips for any beginers interested in flashing your devices, be ready to spend more time then you think! Things tend to go wrong when tampering with your device, and knowing this ahead of time will save you from being let down.
Also get ready to read! The more you read the better, a lack of information is usualy what results in a mistake, and sometimes a mistake will cost you more then just your time, also while reading, check the dates of your information, I have been lead astray many times by outdated information.
Asides from that the main thing is to have fun. The ability to hack into your device is a something to be done for enjoyment. If you are interested in keeping things simple, this is NOT for you and the stock Roms of any device is recomended, however for those who have a hunger for some tinkering your device is a playground!
